The competition is part of the New Zealand Agricultural Show run by the Canterbury A&P Association.

In 2021 the New Zealand Aromatic Wine Competition evolved and was renamed to The Aotearoa Regional Wine Competition

Jim Harré, Chair of Judges, says the changes made to the competition “are reflective of the re-emergence of the traditional concept of an A&P Show – to showcase and highlight the best of produce.”
